Comment: PR - while sick!

Race Report:

My first run since IM-FL, I learned of this race from Beth in my Crystal Park masters swim group the day before. I've been trying to get over a cold, but decided to just go for it since my legs would be well rested, and the weather warmed up above freezing - the race didn't start until 9:30! Registration was $5 at a table across from the park, everyone was there to just go for a nice group run - no mile markers other than the trail markers which did not correspond to the race. Only two water stops, one at the turn around, seemed just right given the perfectly cool running conditions.

I decided to try to run my cold away by running as hard as I could for as long as I could - no real consequence if I had to slow down or walk since this was a replacement for my normally scheduled long run. My PR pace would be ~8:45 mile/min. so I started out ahead of that - so that just in case everything went well I could PR. I had my HRM on but I was unconcerned about keeping it pegged above 170 for the whole run, above 180 for the last 3 miles. Between the trail markers my pace was between 8:02 and 8:46 for all but 2 miles (9:05, 9:08) around the turnaround, where lets just say I really could have used a porto-john.

I crossed the finish line with a PR by over 2 minutes, knowing I can probably break 1:50 now if I focus on it, and I'm not sick. The biggest bonus of the day was that I managed to shake that cold rather than make it worse, so add that to the list of cold remedies!

Thanks for reading :)
