Race Report:

A very tough 1/2 Marathon (particularly when you had biked 100 miles the day before). Roughly the first 1.5 miles are blazing fast downhill. The first mile I averaged a 5:40 mile pace, and the second mile was still well under 6 minutes per mile. The two leaders were flying, and were soon out of sight and on their way to blazing a new course record. After a quick hard right reality sets in and you head straight up Woodburn Rd. For many of you you know this because you have biked up this rd which is off of Dry Mill Rd. The course winds all the way over Woodburn. Parts of this course are on dirt roads, and there is a nice downhill section that requires a little bit of cencentration. The course meanders through Hamilton, and the final 3+ mile stretch is on the W&OD from Hamilton Station back to the race start/finish. Roughly 2+ of those miles are on an uphill grade until it levels off to begin the downhill to the finish at the route 7 over/underpass. The last mile is a blazing 1 mile downhill section before you make a nice left hand turn back into the park and a slight uphill finish on the dirt rd. I got passed twice, once by the eventual 6th place finisher (he passed me at roughly mile 6) and he stayed approximately 30-45 seconds ahead the rest of the way, and then at the 8 mile mark I got passed by the eventual 5th place finisher who was hauling, we chatted for a bit, but he was moving at a pace way to fast for me to maintain.

The racepacket contained a nice longsleeve shirt, running gloves, and a water bottle, much more than I get for typical triathlons, plus the food spread was good too with plenty of fruit, muffins, pizza etc. It was also nice to finally win something, my hardwork this year finally paid off, guess all the fast guys were racing somewhere else, this time would have barely cracked the top 20 last year, but it was a PR for me, and beat my time by 5 minutes last year in my 3rd ever 1/2 marathon. This was also a nice confidence booster with only 11 days out to the ChessyMan Ironman.
