Race Report:

This race was to follow up the half from the day before and all I wanted to do was get out there and use up whatever I had left. I knew I wasn't going to win, I knew I wasn't going to PR but I was going to go out and just have fun.

Pre-race: RAIN!

I wasn't sure I was going to do the race when I saw the whether but Dave, Reid, and Mike all sorta got me to at least do the swim and go from there. This seemed to be the right choice so I set up my Transition area, put on my wetsuit and got ready to race. I told myself that if it was raining when I got out of the water I'd bag the race.

Swim: 14:49 slow but and crooked

Not my best swim but as mentioned in the other report I need to work on my sighting. When I got out of the water it wasn't raining so off to T1 to get ready to ride.

T1: 2:45 boy am I slow

Bike: 50:06

So I guess I'm doing the bike leg I say to myself as I get going running through the mud to the bike mount area. I hopped on and clipped my left foot in and start going. I was trying to clip my right foot but it was all gunked up with mud and I'm trying to go uphill. I reach down and try clean it out with my fingers, once, twice, third time was the charm and I clipped in and then it started to rain...oh well too late now. At this point I told myself to just go, do what you can. I noticed just how tired my legs were on the hills but kept going. It was pouring rain and the descents were tough to see, and I had a slight sunburn from the day before an the rain drops felt like sleet against the burn. It was a fun ride!

T2: 1:46

Run: 23:52

Well I've come this far I may as well finish the run so off I went. I managed to hold slightly under an 8:00/mile pace which is fine by me. The highlight of the run was watching Fabrice pass me going into the last mile. I finished the run to see my wife and our fans standing there cheering in the downpour. That's dedication! You guys are great...I chatted for a bit with several RATS but needed to get dry before I got sick so we had to roll out.

Overall it was a fun race, but I could stand for a little less rain next year.
