This race is a good early season race. The course is fast and the race is well run by Set-up Inc. The weather was near prefect for me; cold and rainy...

I had a very good result for such an early season race. A few minor things came up that could have thrown off my whole race.

1) around mile 10 of the bike a dude in a zebra shirt came running out of the bushes trying to see my number on my bike. I was close to the biker in front of me but not within 3 bike lengths. I slowed down. I spent the next 10 miles beating myself up about the possibility of getting a stupid penalty so early in the race and tried to formulate an agrument against it. It turned out the I didn't get one. In the future I just need to shake it off. There is nothing i can do about it at the time but go faster...

2) about the time I forgot about the possible penalty, my left
cleat on my bike shoe came lose. I stopped and asked a couple of girls directing us at one of the corners if they had a dime (which I could us as a tool) they said no but that they had a dollar bill I could have. I chuckled, said no thanks and moved on. Luckily, someone at the H2O station not far ahead had tools. Not only were the screws lose on my shoe bottom, they had backed out about 1/2". Not sure how this is possible after only about 20 miles of riding.

3) When i got off the bike in T2, I faced the hard decision of whether or not it would be a fast run or a slow run. My legs were cramping quiet a bit. I stopped at a porto-potty for about 2 minutes and collected my thoughts while depositing all the extra fluids I took in on the bike. The start of the run was slow but after the first 20 minutes things started to move normal and I managed to have a really good race. (I just need to remember that the first couple of miles can be slow in Long course racing and not to get too depressed at the start of the run)

Overall, a great result for me. I PRed by 8 minutes overall and I had a PR for each individual discipline(except for T1 and T2)..

The only bummer of the day is I did well overall (15th) but still had a ton of guys(5)in my age group ahead of me.
